About Us

Our Mission

EastMind Collective is committed to dismantling stigma around mental health and creating community-driven spaces for awareness, support, and healing. We do this through storytelling, creative expression, and peer-led initiatives that reflect the unique cultural and religious contexts of the East African diaspora.

We recognize that conversations about mental health can be deeply personal, layered, and often taboo. Many in our community-particularly those struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or substance-related issues-are met with judgment rather than care. Religious and cultural norms can sometimes lead to shame and isolation, making it even harder for individuals to seek help.

At EastMind, we stand for compassion over condemnation. We are here to listen, learn, and uplift— not to judge. Our work is not exclusive to one faith or culture, but we acknowledge the specific challenges that exist within our communities, ensuring our initiatives are culturally sensitive, inclusive, and relevant.

Our Values

We envision a future where mental wellness is normalized, supported, and embraced within the East African diaspora.

A future where:

  1. No one feels ashamed to seek help

  2. Mental health is treated with the same urgency as physical health.

  3. Communities foster understanding rather than stigma.

Through our programs, we aim to create a space where East African youth can:

  • Share their stories without fear of judgment.

  • Connect with peers who understand their lived experiences.

  • Explore healing through creative expression.

  • Access resources that are culturally and religiously aware.
